Abu Dhabi is all set to host its “Sustainability Week 2020” from January 11 to 18 in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar”. The event is scheduled to take place under the guardianship of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Although the major thrust will be on sustainability, the authorities have confirmed that a special focus shall be laid on the area of artificial intelligence and how the same can enhance the sustainable developments in the upcoming years using Big Data, internet of things and advanced data computing.
The week with its ten major events shall address the issues of sustainability under the theme of “accelerating the pace of sustainable development”. As a prime thrust shall be laid upon Artificial intelligence, the major topic of discussion for this year at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week are youth, artificial intelligence, and society, energy, climate change, space exploration and technology, health, water, food and technology for a better life. Being one of the important platforms to discuss the challenges the world is facing in the context of sustainability and finding efficient solutions to curb the problems, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is providing a global Dias for participants varying from scientists, technologists, climate activists, and United Nations leaders in the profession.
Abu Dhabi. Since the year 2008 is providing with various beautiful platforms to entangle the international community and is trying to paint with sustainability issues and ways to tackle the same. From the last decade, the platform has evolved a lot via summits, symposiums, conferences, and events which aims to gather the global community to discuss feasible efforts to drive the pace of sustainable progress. The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2020, which is held in conjunction with the year of the fifty-year readiness in the UAE, is a model for the UAE’s directions to open up to various international experiences and to gather sustainability leaders in one place to exchange views and knowledge on the most important sustainability issues for the benefit of the countries of the whole world.
As the forum discusses the significance of the involvement of women, youth and the social elements towards to acceleration of sustainable development, the week also provides an opportunity to empower these groups of people and shall urge the society to participate, even in more numbers. The list of events includes a youth center for sustainability and a women’s forum for sustainability, environment, renewable energy and the festival in Masdar city.
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week consists of various group activities that aim to highlight the different groups based on various destinations. Some of the few notable inclusion to the above groups are the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency “IRENA,” the World Energy Forum of the Atlantic Council, the Future of Sustainability Summit, the exhibition, and forums of the World Future Energy Summit, the Abu Dhabi Forum for Sustainable Finance and the award ceremony for the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards. The only aim of conducting these events is to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and thus helping to bind a global common community to frame strategies aiming to heal the deficiencies of the present sustainable concerns.
The activities of the week begin with the convening of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency “IRENA,” which is the most important event for international cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The association is attended by heads of state, ministers and high-level personalities from member countries and monitoring organizations from all over the world. Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and comprising more than 170 member countries, IRENA is working to harness its General Assembly to agree on its goals and discuss the importance of the transition towards renewable energy as one of the solutions to climate change and contribute to promoting sustainability.
Speaking on the World Energy Forum, the council also conducts the Atlantic Summit and initiates the primary gathering of various governments and sector leaders who discuss the global energy agenda during the year and respond to crest and troughs in the energy world.
The opening ceremony of the Abu Dhabi sustainability week, as confirmed, shall bind together more than 4000 delegates from various domains of the sustainability community including business giants, state heads, policymakers, scientists, technologists, engineers, executives, academicians, and businessmen. The ceremony represents inception for the goals of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, including discussions, activities, and events.
